Crewe Alexandra v Crawley Town preview: Can the Reds bring back all three points after improved performances?

After two decent home performances Reds travel back up North this week as they face Crewe Alexandra.

Two home games in a row saw Reds pick up four points and ease themselves out of trouble.

The game against Grimsby produced a very good performance and the final score line could have been more than 2-1. The performance level slightly dropped against Mansfield, but it was still a good display by the Reds getting a point from one of the best teams in the division.

Hopefully the side’s performance can be the same as the Grimsby game and the Reds will give themselves a very good chance of picking up three points.

Crewe have been on a bit of a slump in recent weeks with no win in their previous five games.

They’ve only scored two goals in those five games, and with Reds not in the best of form in front of goal either, it doesn’t set up to be a game full of goals. However, both teams do have the capability of scoring goals and their fortunes could turn during the game. Crewe currently occupy 15th in Sky Bet League Two and comfortably sit mid table with neither the play-offs or relegation on their mind.

If Crawley win the game, they will move just one point behind Crewe and also secure a comfortable mid table position. Prior to their run of five games without a win Crewe had just one defeat in nine matches, with this defeat coming against Bury.

This run shows what Crewe are capable of and they can be a very good side.

Crawley have started to look a bit better recently in games against MK Dons, Grimsby and Mansfield.

The partnership between Tom Dallison, Joe McNerney and George Francomb looks stronger with every game that goes on.

Matty Willock is also improving with the more game time he is getting. He had an effort hit the crossbar against Grimsby and a first goal is not too far away for the Manchester United loanee. Reece Grego-Cox has also put in performances that are good enough to keep his place in the starting 11.

He also had an effort cannon off the crossbar just moments after Matty Willock’s in the game against Grimsby.

We will hopefully see another strong performance from the Reds up in Crewe and bring back all three points.

Crawley Town head coach Gabriele Cioffi said: “I don’t know if he will renew with Fleetwood, I don’t know if he will sign again with Carlisle United.

“I will be honest he is a player I like, let’s see what he will decide.”

Fleetwood manager Joey Barton called on Nadesan to commit to a new deal and prove he wants to be part of what he is building at Fleetwood Town.

The striker’s current three-year contract has been completed and he has been offered a fresh deal but has yet to put pen to paper.

Barton was eager to see Nadesan commit and be a part of his core of players.

He told our sister paper the Blackpool Gazette: “We want continuity. We have a nucleus of a squad that we can build around – Wes Burns, Alex Cairns, Ash Hunter, Ash Eastham, Paddy Madden.

“And we are hoping we can get Ashley Nadesan to commit and show he wants to be part of what we are doing here.”

Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe is one step closer to a Championship switch – League 1 and League 2 latest news

Barnsley and QPR have joined Sheffield Wednesday in the race to sign Sunderland defender Adam Matthews, as per Football Insider.

Even so, Matthews, believed to be one of the Black Cats’ highest-earners, has lost his starting 11 spot in recent months to Luke O’Nien.

Meanwhile, reported Sunderland target Lawrence Shankland has opened the door on a move to the Stadium of Light after confirming his Ayr United exit.

Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe is one step closer to a Championship switch, according to reports.

The Daily Star report that Pompey’s failure to secure promotion to England’s second-tier could see Lowe push for a move away from the south coast.

And they have suggested Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough remain interested in acquiring the winger having been linked with him earlier in the campaign.

Lowe could be joined by Matt Clarke, as The Sun believe around £5million is likely to seal a move away from Fratton Park.

Peterborough United chairman Darren MacAnthony has shot down speculation linking the club with a move for Portsmouth goalkeeper Luke McGee.

MacAnthony was responding to reports from Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who said Posh were interested in Pompey’s out-of-favour shotstopper.

“Big Al is completely wrong,” said MacAnthony. ‘We’ve been offered Luke multiple times. Great guy is Luke but we are going in a different direction. So this time Alan is way off.”

Posh, however, are likely to lose defender Ryan Tafazolli this summer with Football Insider reporting that Swansea City are plotting a swoop.

Blackpool FC’s new owner is expected to be in control by mid-June.

The Blackpool Gazette understands four serious bids have been submitted and it is now the receiver’s job to consider these and determine the most appropriate way to conclude the sale.

Hong Kong-based businessman Simon Sadler and Henry Teh, an investor from Singapore, are thought to be the frontrunners.
